Title

Parkland County and Parkland School Division (PSD)  Joint Use and Planning Agreement

Proposed Motion

That the Parkland County and Parkland School Division Joint Use and Planning Agreement be presented to Council at the April 9, 2024 Council Meeting for approval.

Body

Administration Recommendation

Administration supports the proposed motion.

Purpose

To establish a Joint Use and Planning agreement with the Parkland School Division as per Municipal Government Act requirements.

Summary

The Municipal Government Act now requires that all municipalities and school boards establish a joint use and planning agreement by June 2025.   The Legislation defines what matters must be addressed in the agreement which center around three main areas including:

- Shared use and access to facilities

- Funding of shared facilities and services

- the planning and acquisition of new or expanded school sites

Parkland County Administration and Parkland DSchool Division Administration have worked together to develop the agreement being presented today.   We, Parkland County and the PSD,  feel that this agreement addresses the needs of both organizations as well as the requirements identified in the MGA.
