That Council direct Administration to prepare a Potentially Contaminated Soils Policy and present this policy for review at the Committee of the Whole meeting on July 6, 2021.

Administration Recommendation

Administration supports review of the proposed Potentially Contaminated Soils Policy, but asks that Council consider an amendment to the timelines and direction to enable administration to bring a report back to the Committee of the Whole on September 7, 2021.

 

Purpose

This policy would establish and outline procedures to ensure soils brought into the County, for both public and private lands, are free from contamination and/or deleterious materials that could adversely affect the environment.

 

Summary

On April 27, 2021 Mayor Shaigec presented a Notice of Motion:

 

"Take notice that at a regular meeting of Council on May 11, 2021, Mayor Shaigec will move that Council direct administration to prepare a policy for Council's review and approval to establish procedures to ensure soils brought into the County, for both public and private lands, are free from contamination and/or deleterious materials by July 2021.".
