Purpose
Parkland County Council reviews the existing strategic plan on an annual basis to reconfirm and clarify goals and priority strategies.
Summary
At the annual strategic retreat held March 6 & 7, 2024, Council discussed the existing strategic plan, progress and achievements to-date, and potential changes to confirm and clarify organizational priorities and direction. Attachment 2. Strategic Plan Text Revision Summary provides the redline text changes to the document, however, changes can be summarized as follows:
Goals: Changes proposed to select goals with the purpose of clarifying intent. Including:
- Goal B1 - minor amendments to wording to clarify focus (i.e. emphasis on Acheson and Wabamun).
- Goal B3 - minor amendments to wording to clarify intent.
Strategies: Changes proposed to select strategies, including:
- A1 Strategy - minor amendments to wording to clarify intent.
- D2 Strategy - replace current strategy (as organizational review is complete) with wording found in Goal D5 (as a result Goal D5 will be removed).
Document Design: Administration will be completing minor graphic design amendments to the Strategic Plan document including:
- Revisions to the page layout and colour-box choices for “Priorities for 2024-25” (current pages 4-5) to better communicate Council’s current top priorities.
- Revisions to colour-box choices on Page 6 to prevent reader confusion between document structure and Priority Pillars.
- Revisions to colour choices throughout document to prevent reader confusion.
- Previous editions now listed on page 10 for transparency.

March 3 & 4, 2022 - Council participated in a strategic planning session to develop the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan
June 14, 2022 - Council approved the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan
March 8 & 9, 2023 - Council participated in a strategic planning session to review and update the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan
May 9, 2023 - Council approved the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan (Second Edition)
March 6 & 7, 2024 - Council participated in a strategic planning session to review the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan
April 9, 2024 - Council confirmed intent and revisions from the strategic planning session, and directed Administration to update the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan
