Purpose

The Village of Wabamun is requesting Parkland County's support for their grant applications.

Summary

In 2013, Parkland County enlisted the services of EDA Collaborative to undertake a boat launch study of Lake Wabamun.  Through this process, it was determined that some upgrades were required to the Village of Wabamun's boat launch to help facilitate a greater volume of access to the lake.  This included an increase to the number of launches in conjunction with the redevelopment of the public pier, expanding the existing parking and improving vehicle circulation to accommodate increased use.  As part of the study, some conceptual design work and costing was completed, from which the next steps for this project would be based, including detailed design and construction.  While this process will be led by the Village of Wabamun, Parkland County will be a key partner as this initiative will have an impact on its residents who access the lake.

The Village of Wabamun previously applied to the Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) program for project funding.  This application was made to the previous Alberta Government in the 2014/15 fiscal year.  The application was not approved.   The Village of Wabamun is currently preparing to reapply for two Boat Launch related projects to the ACP program under the new Alberta Government for the 2015/16 fiscal year and is requesting support from Parkland County.  At this point  the funding commitment requested of Parkland County has not been discussed with the Village, and is not required for the application to proceed.
