Summary

The Jackfish Boat Launch was originally built out of gravel and in 2004 it was upgraded to concrete pads. In 2010, the pads on the boat launch were relocated lower down the ramp due to the low water levels. As water levels in the lake have continued to drop, very little of the ramp is currently submerged, and combined with the scour hole left from boats loading, the launch is currently in poor condition making it difficult for users to safely launch their boats. One lane of the launch has been permanently closed due to the potential for serious damage to trailers. As the water level shows no indication of leveling or increasing, we can anticipate that the condition of the ramp will only get worse each season and the concrete pads will continue to deteriorate as a result of vehicles coming in contact with the edges. The concrete pads are also reaching the end of their lifespan and would likely require replacement in the foreseeable future.

This project will see new pads installed and a correction of the slope of the launch to account for the new location of the pads. The concrete pads will extend further into the lake to account for future receding water levels, using the current water level as the low water mark.  This project will repair the current issues, ensuring the boat launch remains a county asset for years to come. This additional funding will allow us to include the repairs to the Jackfish Boat Launch with our current Wabamun boat launch repair project to gain efficiencies.
