Summary
The Carvel Ukrainian Cultural Society is committed to fostering a thriving, inclusive, and connected rural community. Current hall usage primarily supports special events, facility rentals, and an expanding focus on cultural programming. In preparation for the Society’s 100th anniversary in 2028, plans are underway for Centennial celebrations, alongside efforts to upgrade and modernize the hall to improve efficiency, functionality, and its capacity to support increased programming and community gatherings. The Society continues to be supported by a dedicated and diverse volunteer base that contributes significantly to the ongoing viability and vibrancy of the facility.
The 2018 Stantec Facilities Analysis and Lifecycle Report identified several building components as medium- to high-priority for replacement. In response, the Society is proposing a comprehensive facility modernization project with an estimated total cost of $458,000. Planned improvements include upgrades to insulation, windows, doors, flooring, canopy structures, HVAC and ventilation systems, kitchen appliances, bar facilities, and interior finishes.
The proposed upgrades will transform the hall into a more modern and energy-efficient facility, improving reliability, reducing energy consumption and operating costs, extending the building lifecycle, and creating a more sustainable and comfortable environment for the general public, renters, members, and volunteers. The project will also enhance accessibility, improve the overall appearance and functionality of the facility, and refine transitions between the original 1935 structure and subsequent additions to create a more cohesive and integrated building design.
To support the project, the Society intends to pursue additional funding opportunities through a variety of grant programs, including energy efficiency, accessibility, legacy, agricultural, provincial, and national funding streams. Subject to securing full project funding, construction is anticipated to commence in spring 2027, contingent on material and supply availability.
