Purpose
To create awareness and gather feedback from Parkland County residents on a proposed OHV Staging area; the information gathered will be used to help determine the future level of County support for the proposed project.
Summary
The Yellowhead Overlander's club has presented a proposal to Parkland County for the development of an Off Highway Vehicle Staging area in the area commonly known as Hell's Half Acre. As indicated in their presentation public input is critical in moving forward with the project. Information gathered through the public engagement process will be used by Administration make recommendations to the Governance and Priorities Committee and Council on future County involvement and support for the proposed project. Administration is recommending that the County lead the Public Engagement process with support from the Overlander's. Administration has the resources and expertise to develop and carry out the plan ensuring that GPC and Council receive the information necessary to aid in their decision making process.
The Public Engagement Plan is attached along with an area map. The intent is to directly survey those residents situated within a mile of the proposed staging area, identified by the shaded area on the attached map. An Open House would also be held in partnership with the Overlander's to provide information to all other interested residents; and gather their feedback as well regarding the proposal. Additional opportunities for those residents unable to attend the Open House will be provided via an on line survey. The results of the Public Engagement activities will be presented back to GPC in January 2013, along with a recommendation on future County support for the proposal.
