Purpose
To present a plan to facilitate the storage of Dragonboats at Wabamun for the Parkland Dragonboat Racing Club by including available space, timing, and cost

Summary
On February 11, 2025, Council directed Community Services to develop a plan for providing the Parkland Dragon Boat Racing Club (PDBRC) with boat storage and maintenance facilities in Wabamun. Community Services collaborated with internal departments to identify a mutually viable option for both the County and the PDBRC. Following an exploration of potential solutions, the PDBRC was presented with the most feasible option. The attached presentation details the most suitable option for both parties. If accepted by Council and the PDBRC, Community Services will initiate the development of a site license of occupation for the location.

Historical Information:
The Wabamun-based Parkland Dragon Boat Racing Club (PDBRC), established in 2017, has become a vibrant community organization. Their 100+ members promote wellness and camaraderie, and their successful 2023 race day, planned annually, highlights their contribution to local recreation.

With the organization's steady growth trajectory, the logistical challenges associated with equipment storage have intensified. The increasing inventory of boats, boat trailers, life jackets, and program support materials has outgrown the limitations of residential storage solutions.

The organization currently holds a license of occupation for a parcel of land by the pier where they are able to launch their boats, the club is not currently in a financial position to build a clubhouse, maintenance shop or storage facility at the site, thus they are exploring alternative options.
