Proposed Motions

1. That the Smart Parkland Feasibility Broadband Assessment Report be received for information, as presented.

2. That Council approve an amount of up to $30,000 from the Future Capital Restricted Surplus Fund for the development of a Broadband Strategy and for applications for additional funding through government/ private sector opportunities.

Purpose

To develop a broadband strategy focused on Parkland County fibre optic networks and infrastructures.

 

Summary

Parkland County engaged a consultant to conduct a broadband market survey, development of needs and assets identification.  This study includes recommendations for a path forward for the development of fibre connectivity in the County.  This study included market surveys and internet speed tests with Parkland County residents.  Industry projections were completed to consider public/private/public-private partnership scenarios and the role of government in the operation and support of this type of infrastructure.
