The Governance and Priorities Committee recommends that Council support the submission of a resolution to AAMDC to advocate the passing of Bill 201 which regulates the purchasing and receiving of scrap metal, in support of efforts being taken to reduce vandalism and theft of communication cable.
Summary
At their June 18, 2013 meeting, the Governance and Priorities Committee received information from Telus regarding the negative impact to residents and to Telus caused by vandalism and theft of communication cable. Further to this, the Committee was also made aware that provincial legislation has been recently introduced (i.e., Bill 201 - Scrap Metal Dealers and Recyclers Identification Act), which regulates the purchasing and receiving of scrap metal. The Governance and Priorities Committee directed administration to consider some of the suggestions made by Telus, and resolved to ask Council to submit a resolution to AAMDC which supports the passing of Bill 201 - Scrap Metal Dealers and Recyclers Identification Act.
