Administration supports that Code of Conduct Bylaw 2025-01 receive second and third reading, as presented.
Purpose
Council Code of Conduct Bylaw 2025-01 received first reading at the January 14, 2025 Council meeting. Bylaw 2025-01 is presented for Council's consideration to receive second and third reading.
The Municipal Government Act, Section 146 requires that each municipality must pass by bylaw a Council Code of Conduct to govern all members of Council equally. Parkland County passed the initial Council Code of Conduct Bylaw on May 22, 2018. A review of the Council Code of Conduct is required within each four-year term of Council. Bylaw 2025-01 is presented in accordance with Section 146.
Summary
Previous Council passed Bylaw 2018-05, Code of Conduct Bylaw on May 22, 2018. It is required that the Council members serving a four-year term effective October, 2021 to October 2025 review the Council Code of Conduct in their term. Passing of Council Code of Conduct Bylaw 2025-01 will allow the municipality to be in compliance with Section 146.1 of the Municipal Government Act.
