2012 Alberta Winter Games Funding Allocation
Recommendation
That Council approve funding of $45,850 as Parkland County's contribution towards the 2012 Alberta Winter Games and that funding come from 2012 Contingency.

Purpose
Council has received a letter form the Chair of the 2012 Alberta Winter Games Board of Directors. The letter is requesting a $67,000 municipal contribution to the Alberta Winter Games.
Summary
The Board of Directors for the 2012 Alberta Winter Games had budgeted for a $200,000 contribution form the municipal hosts of the Games. The budget plan was that through fundraising this amount would not be required and that the municipal contribution to to the Games would be through "In Kind" services. Certainly the municpal partners were all involved in the games preparation in different capacities. To the Credit of the Games board they were able to secure many services and supplies as inKind throughout the fund raising campaign. Attached is the budget and letter of request from the 2012 Alberta Winter Games Board of Directors.
The Provincial Government also provides hosting grants to host municipalities. These grants have not increased at the same rate as the cost of hosting games. The anticipated cost of the games will be in excess of $2 million.
As of March 1, 2012 the Board is anticipating a deficit of $137,505. As per the agreement signed with the Provincial Government Parkland County's contribution to this funding request would be $45,835. The Board is requesting a contribution of $67,000 in order to assist with funding Games Legacy Projects in the region. These legacy projects have not yet been identified as the Board is wanting to ensure that all of the financial obligations of the Games are taken care of. (of note is that the Provincial Government provides a $50,000 legacy grant to the Host society)
