Title

Parkland County Water Shortage Plan

Proposed Motion

That the Parkland County Water Shortage Plan be received for information, as presented.

Body

Administration Recommendation

Administration supports the proposed motion as the report will inform the Governance and Priorities Committee of proposed measures to be taken in the event of a water shortage in the County.

Purpose

On January 11, 2024, all municipalities in Alberta received a letter from the Minister of Environment and Protected Areas requesting that given the existing drought conditions in the province, all municipalities should develop water shortage plans.

Summary

Although Parkland County is not affected by drought conditions to the extent many southern municipalities are, Administration feels that having a water shortage plan is beneficial regardless of the reason for a potential loss in water supply. The attached report summarizes the necessary measures to be taken by Parkland County in the event of a water shortage for various scenarios.
