That Mayor Rod Shaigec be appointed as a member of the Intensive Agriculture Operations (IAO) Working Group, effective March 20, 2015, and that Councillor Darrell Hollands be appointed as alternate member.

Council's appointment of a member and alternate member to the IAO Working Group authorizes attendance, participation, and remuneration for the appointed members.

Summary
The Intensive Agriculture Operation (IAO) Working Group has been formed to bring together representatives from rural municipalities, the agriculture industry, and the Government of Alberta to seek innovative solutions to issues relating to the local impacts that intensive agriculture operations have in rural areas.

During the course of the Municipal Government Act review, the Minister of Municipal Affairs asked the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC) and representatives from the agriculture industry to develop a working group that will provide direction and contribute to developing consensus on assessment practices for intensive agriculture operations. As work began to plan the task force, a decision was made to broaden the discussion beyond assessment to consider various options to address challenges that municipalities have related to intensive agriculture operations.

AAMDC invited one member from each of the five AAMDC Districts to participate in this working group. A preliminary meeting was held March 20, 2015 at the AAMDC office which provided an opportunity for representatives from the agriculture industry, municipal leaders and government to discuss this issue and open the conversation for potential solutions to address challenges being experienced moving forward.
