Purpose
Enforcement Services was asked by council to present information on the DARE program.
Summary
Safety presentations in regards to Off highway Vehicles within Parkland County are presented throughout the year in schools, crime watch meetings and other venues to increase safety awareness for our youth when riding OHVs in our county. The DARE program is new to Parkland County Enforcement , however it is a program that has been delivered across our county in the past by members of the RCMP. Enforcement services is excited to now have a trained Peace Officer to help get the message out to our youth of the dangers of drugs. The power point presentation for OHV safety include slides related to what personal protective equipment that should be worn when operating an OHV as well as what are prohibited vehicles,what hazards to be aware of, where it is legal to ride within the county along with photographs to show the students some of the dangers involved when out riding.The DARE presentation includes a readers digest version of slides going over the 10 lessons that are taught to the students over the 10 week course including facts and the dangers about drug and alcohol abuse,making the right life choices and peer pressure to name just a few.
Administrative Position
Administration supports the ongoing delivery of education in regards to both the DARE and OHV safety modules as attached to this report.
