Title

Request for Decision Parkland Pickleheads, Pickleball Club (PPPC)

Proposed Motion

That Council approve Parkland Pickleheads Pickleball Club (PPPC) funding request for facility development in the amount of $300,000.

Body

Administration Recommendation

Administration does not support the proposed motion.

Purpose

To provide Council with funding recommendations for consideration as directed by council on November 12, 2024.

Summary

The presentation provided by the PPPC on November 12th, 2024 gave background on the sport, the Club, its membership, and facility plans including concept, design and costing.

The Club has partnered with Stony Plain Land Inc. to assess land, located in Stony Plain North Park, to construct a new outdoor facility that will include:

     - 28 courts

     - Parking

     - Indoor washroom facilities

     - Concession and player gathering area

Courts are open to the public - however, they are required to pay drop-in fee or join as a member (full member $85, drop in fee $5 per player per hour).

As this project falls outside the current financial budget cycle and requires further criteria review to ensure financial viability and that the programming need aligns to Parkland County’s capital investment, it is recommended that Council decline the funding request currently.
