That the 5-Year Broad Objectives and strategic planning update be received for information, as presented.

Purpose

To update members of the Committee on the progress related to the development and finalization long-term Strategic Plan and other key strategic planning elements.

 

Summary

Council periodically reviews their Strategic Plan to ensure it continues to align with Council's vision for Parkland County. Through an analysis of previous Strategic Plans, a need was identified to develop a longer-term strategic plan.  A Strategic Planning Retreat was held with Council, where key priorities, opportunities, and challenges were discussed and Council was encouraged to share their long-term vision for Parkland’s future. A long-term Vision Statement was presented and confirmed, One Parkland: Powerfully Connected. Additionally, Council has approved key strategic plan elements, including the pillars, guiding principles, and core values.

 

Elements of the Strategic Plan were included in the resident and business priorities survey to gauge the alignment with stakeholder priorities.

 

Key elements of the Strategic Planning and Budget process are included in this update, including the 5-Year Strategic Plan Broad Objectives; a draft Strategic Planning Package; an overview of the Balanced Scorecard; a 2018 Project Overview; an overview of budget process improvements; and, decision-making tools.

This supports all areas of the Strategic Plan.
