Proposed Motion

That members of Council be appointed as Deputy Mayor pursuant to Section 152(1) of the Municipal Government Act, as follows:

 

Council Member Kobasiuk - October 24, 2023 to February 29, 2024

Council Member Birnie - March 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024

Council Member Kucher-Johnson - July 1, 2024 to October 21, 2024

Council Member Kowalski - October 22, 2024 to February 28, 2025

Council Member Wiedeman - March 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025

Council Member Hoefsloot - July 1, 2025 - October 28, 2025

Administration supports the proposed motion.

 

Purpose

To revise the appointment of Deputy Mayor rotation between Council Members Kowalski and Birnie.

 

Summary

At the October 24, 2023 Organizational meeting, Council appointed members of Council to serve as Deputy Mayor for the second half of their four-year term. To allow members of Council to fulfill their appointment as Deputy Mayor, a revised schedule is being presented to allow Council Member Birnie to be appointed as Deputy Mayor for the term of March 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024 and Council Member Kowalski to be appointed as Deputy Mayor from October 22, 2024 to February 28, 2025.

 

Historical Information:

At the October 24, 2023 Organizational meeting, Council approved a revised Deputy Mayor rotation for the second half of their four-year term.

At each Council Organizational meeting following a municipal election, Council appoints a Deputy Mayor rotation for the four-year term in accordance with Section 152 of the Municipal Government Act.
