Body
Administration Recommendation(s)
Administration supports the proposed motion.
Purpose
To introduce the Public Information Portal to Council and the public.
Summary
Administration has created a Public Information Portal (Bylaw Search) that will allow the public to search for and view all in-force bylaws of Parkland County. The portal provides for two types of searches; a basic search and an advanced search. The basic search is intended for searching a specific word in the content of a bylaw; whereas the advanced search is used to build more complex searches and provides options for sorting the search results. Presently this portal includes our in-force bylaws from 2013 to 1994, and all frequently requested bylaws currently provided on the County's website. Administration intends to have all in-force bylaws in the information portal by the end of 2013. The next phase of this project will see Council policies added to the search engine, and at some point in the future all public documents in the custody of Parkland County.
At this time the Public Information Portal is only supported by Internet Explorer; however administration is presently working on software upgrades that will allow this search engine to work with all types of internet browsers used by the public (i.e. Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc.). We expect to have full browser functionality available to the public within ninety days. The "Frequently Requested Bylaws" page will remain available to the public on the internet until the internet browser issue has been resolved.
