Purpose
That Council receive a cheque from RBC in support of the Learn to Play Project.

Summary
The RBC Learn to Play Project provides grants to local organizations and communities in support of building the physical literacy of Canada's kids and youth. RBC will award a total of $750,000 each year in grants to support two types of programs.

The Regional Recreation and Wellness Committee (Parkland County, CIty of Spruce Grove, Town of Stony Plain and The TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre) is seeking to change the way our community views physical activity. Together we will work to remove barriers to participation, engage our children and create meaningful experiences that last a lifetime. This project has six components, each one building on the previous.

Our first step will be to develop, in consultation with key stakeholders, a regional strategy for the inclusion of High Five, Physical Literacy and CS4L (Canadian Sport for Life) in recreation and sports throughout Spruce Grove, Parkland County and Stony Plain.

Training is the next step - Rural Alberta is fortunate enough to have many dedicated parents, aunts, cousins etc willing to donate their time to coach the community sports team or start a recreation club, but very few have any training. Maintaining active kids begin with positive experiences. The coaches/program leaders are the first line of defense in ensuring that all kids have a positive experience - no exception.
