Purpose
Changes to Council Expenses Policy C-AD24 were presented to GPC on April 3, 2012, at which time GPC amended Item 2.k to provide a cheque for $40 (instead of $75), and approved recommending the revised policy to Council for approval.
Summary
Two changes are proposed for Council Expenses Policy C-AD24. One change is to provide an alternative accommodation option, should a Council member choose to overnight at a friend or relative's home instead of a hotel when travel is required for County business (Item 2.k of attached policy). Secondly, clarification is provided (Item 4.b of attached policy) with regards to expenses regarding attendance at provincial or federal political functions (currently this exclusion is included in the Council Remuneration Policy C-AD22 but is better suited to be included in the Council Expenses Policy).

These changes will have very little impact on staff. Very seldom does a member of Council stay at a friend or relative's home when travelling on County business. The exclusion regarding expenses for attending political events complies with the Elections FInances and Contributions Disclosure Act.
