Purpose
To approve Moving Allowance Policy C-HR10 and to rescind Moving Allowance Policy HR 010.
Summary
Moving Allowance Policy C-HR10 was originally brought forward to Council on March 22, 2016. Administration was asked to conduct a further review to determine what our market comparators are doing in relation to relocation/moving allowances. Human Resources completed their review and the changes have been included in the updated Moving Allowance Policy C-HR10. The review concluded that while a couple comparators have a common practice to approve moving allowances for supervisors and managers only, the majority of them allow the CAO, in their sole discretion, to approve moving allowances on a case-by-case basis and the amount is generally up to a maximum. The policy has also been amended to include a section outlining an employee who leaves the organization within twenty-four (24) months from the date of hire will be required to repay the County a portion of the allowance on a pro-rated basis.
