Funding support for Muir Lake Community League Ball Diamond Renovations.
Summary
Muir Lake Community League (Community League) operates a very successful Ball Program that serves the whole community from children up to adults. The two ball diamonds they use to support this program are in need of major repair. There are drainage issues occurring on site that result in the fields being unusable at times. The Community League has identified the cause of the issues and requires work to occur that includes regrading of the area to facilitate a different course of drainage away from the diamonds. Following the regrading the infields will require replacement of clay and sand to provide a safe, playable surface. Care will be taken to ensure that any work done does not impact any of the neighboring school facilities.
The Community League has obtained two quotes for this work which are attached to this report. The cost for this work is in the neighborhood of $29,000. The Community League is seeking $25,000 from Parkland County to help offset these costs. The remainder will be covered by the Community League.
Administration is aware of a number of Parkland County recognized Community Associations who have capital needs and limited funding to address those needs. Typically Administration works with these groups providing support through existing County Funding Programs in place for Community Associations and providing guidance and support in pursuing other funding opportunities such as Alberta Lottery Funding Programs to help address these types of needs.
