Administration supports continuation of the Parkland Communicator newsletter as a four-page monthly publication that focuses on County projects, services, and initiatives. The size of the newsletter is easy for residents to review and often directs people to the County website or other sources for further details and information as required.
Purpose
To provide Governance and Priorities Committee with an overview of the history of the Parkland Communicator Newsletter and how information is obtained for inclusion in the monthly publication.
Summary
The Parkland Communicator newsletter was initiated as a means to improve communications with the public regarding County information, including programs and initiatives. The newsletter started as a magazine published twice a year, and has since grown into a monthly publication that is highly-regarded by residents as an important source of County information.
Each month, Communications puts a call out to different departments to contribute information for inclusion in the newsletter. In 2013, Communications is looking to improve this process through development of departmental communications plans that outline information that should be shared with the public throughout the year. This information will be used to pre-plan each edition, reducing the burden on the departments, and freeing up time to prepare other articles on issues and initiatives that are timely and relevant.
