Administration recommends that the attached resolution approved and forwarded to Alberta Municipal Affairs in support of the "Tri-Region Organics Processing Facility Feasibility Study - Phase 1" project grant application that was submitted to Municipal Affairs at the end of November 2012  
 
Purpose
Alberta Municipal Affairs requires that the attached resolution be made by Parkland County Council to support the Regional Collaboration Grant Program funding application submitted by the County
 
Summary
 
The "Tri-Region Organics Processing Facility Feasibility Study - Phase 1" will look at the feasibility of various local methods and management options to dispose of and process the organic waste material generated by Tri-Region municipalities and other potential sources

Council's Strategic Plan - Environment Strategy #2 - Introduce Practices to make operations more environmentally friendly; Infrastructure Strategy # 3 - Explore development of an Eco-Centre for recycling and composting as a service to the region; Governance Strategy # 1 & 2 -Further relationships with municipal neighbours and associations, and actively seek out joint project opportunities that will benefit our communities;  ICSP Goal #8 - Minimize the amount of waste generated by residents and maximize the diversion rate of recyclables; ICSP Strategy # 8.6 - Accept compostables at transfer stations.
