Title
Recognition of Council Members Policy C-AD50
Proposed Motion(s)
1. That Council approve revisions to Recognition of Council Members Policy C-AD50 (previously named Farewell Gifts for Council Members Policy C-AD50), as presented.
2. That Council rescind Long Service Recognition Policy C-AD04 to allow for administrative approval of Long Service Recognition Directive A-HR21.
Body
Administration Recommendation(s)
Administration supports the proposed motions.
Purpose
A minor change is proposed to Farewell Gifts for Council Members Policy C-AD50 to include eligibility of Council members to receive gifts and recognition for years of service.
Summary
Council members have always been eligible for long service gifts and recognition, along with employees, pursuant to Long Service Recognition Policy C-AD04. In its ongoing review of Council's policies, administration is recommending that Long Service Recognition Policy C-AD04 be rescinded by Council, to allow for the policy to be reformatted as an administrative directive.
The proposed name change to Recognition of Council Members Policy C-AD50 adjusts the focus of the policy to recognition and appreciation of Council members, rather than on gifts only. The revised policy includes Standard 3 which ratifies that Council members are eligible to receive gifts and recognition for years of service, as do County employees (pursuant to Administrative Directive A-HR21).
Strategic Plan/Policy/Legal/Staff Implications (As Required)
Council's 2014-2018 Strategic Plan commits to ensuring Council policies are effective, responsible, and aligned with its goals and vision.
