Title
Wireless Internet Rebate Program - Broadband Operating Project
Proposed Motion
1. That Administration be directed to reinstate the program to supply a rebate for equipment and installation fees to enable access to high-speed wireless internet service for qualified ratepayers
2. That Council approve funding for up to $103,000 from the Rural Communications Network Lifecycle Restricted Surplus
Body
Administration Recommendation
That Council direct Administration to offer a rebate program to rate payers that is an expanded version of the Satellite Internet Rebate Trial, with additional marketing and fewer qualification factors.
Purpose
Ratepayers continue to express interest in quality internet services. This program will address the interest and, based on demonstrated need, will supply a rebate similar to the SIRT, across the County.
Summary
An expanded wireless internet rebate program will improve internet service for rate payers, who either declare a lack of service options or demonstrate a need to upgrade existing service. Upgrade need will be based on test results obtained through a new internet speed test page, allowing the County to gather test data that may be used to set strategy for future broadband initiatives.
