Purpose

To provide the findings of the Socio-Economic Impacts on Parkland County from Phase Out of Coal-Fired Electricity Generation Study to Council.

 

Summary

Parkland County Council is concerned that ongoing changes within the power generation sector will have significant consequences for residents, businesses and municipalities in the region. Municipal neighbours, community groups, residents and businesses have been consulted to gain a better understanding of these consequences and proactively engage in preparing and planning for possible future impacts (as well as opportunities).

 

This study was commissioned to provide Parkland County with an independent, expert assessment of possible socio-economic impacts.The study was conducted by Nichols Applied Management, an Edmonton-based economic and management consulting firm with 40 years experience assessing impacts related to industrial development.

 

The report identifies several key conclusions including matters such as impact to tax, employment, households, and the regional economy.
