Purpose

To generate a well defined conceptual plan based on community and stakeholder feedback that best meets their needs and provides Parkland County with the information necessary to seek out additional supports for the development of the project.

Summary

Parkland County is a proud, shareholding member of the River Valley Alliance (RVA), and has several projects planned along the North Saskatchewan River Valley.  This trail link is one of them and proposes to build a 6 km linkage between the Devonian Botanical Gardens and Prospectors Point.  This will provide connectivity for residents and visitors alike between these two popular regional assets.

A preliminary cost estimate was developed based on the order of magnitude costing for trail development used in the development of the River Valley Alliances Plan of Action.   The preliminary cost estimate based on this information is in the neighborhood of $3,000,000.  Two thirds of the costs would be covered through funding obtained through the River Valley Alliance and the Federal Government leaving Parkland County with one third at $1,000,000.  Parkland County has used this high level information to approach a few Corporations for support and have been unsuccessful thus far.

Administration, along with our appointed River Valley Alliance members, feel the development of a Concept Plan is necessary.   The development of this plan would include public engagement, investigation and confirmation of the most appropriate trail alignment and confirmation of development costs.  This would better equip Parkland County  to seek out the additional sponsorship and support we are seeki...
