Purpose
The policy has been revised to change area of responsibility and to include provisions requested by Council.
Summary
Administration continues its ongoing review of Council policies. The matter of determining eligibility for tax cancellations or refunds pertaining to homes destroyed by fire has transitioned over the years from Legislative and Administrative Services to Financial Services. Although the policy was reformatted to the new policy template in 2012, the policy provisions have not changed since 2003. Revised Policy C-FI14 now reflects the new Management Responsibilities.
At its meeting held June 24, 2014, Council asked Administration to take measures to make County residents aware of this policy and, if possible, to contact affected property owners to offer this assistance in the unfortunate event of their home being destroyed by fire. Accordingly, new provisions (Standards 9 and 10) were added to the policy.
