Title
Range Road 23 Development
Proposed Motion
That the information regarding Range Road 23 development be received for information.
Body
Purpose:
The following provides a brief update in regards to the Range Road 23 Pit Park Development, approved by Council on June 12, 2012.
Background:
The RR23 Pit is crown land and in order to develop the area into a park site a Recreational Lease must first be applied for and approved by Alberta Lands giving the County approval for the development. In order to submit a Recreation Lease application a legal survey is required along with an application, project proposal and plan of what the County intends to do with the land.
AMEC Geomatics Ltd. was contracted to complete the legal survey of the parcel. Due to issues with historical survey evidences of the parcel AMEC required time to garner information and direction from the Province on how to address them. Unfortunately, this resulted in a delay in completing the survey work. The required direction was obtained and survey work completed the week of August 13, 2012. The legal survey plan and complete Recreational Lease application was submitted to Alberta Lands August 22, 2012.
Enforcement Services continues to have a presence in the area and has noticed a drop off with regards to inappropriate activities.
Next Steps:
- Alberta Lands reviews and assesses our Recreational Lease application.
- If approved and a Recreational Lease is obtained we would begin the Park Development process which would include confirming design with feedback from the community, tendering the project, constructing the park.
- It is difficult to identify a timeline as it is not known how long the Provincial review and assessment process will require. Our best estimate, if successful in obtaining a Lease on the land, is that we would look to confirm design and tender in the Spring of 2013 with construction to take place late summer or early fall of 2013.
- If the County does not receiv...
