Proposed Motion(s)
That Council direct administration to bring the Naturalization Policy forward to the January 14th 2014 Council meeting for approval.
Body
Administration Recommendation(s)
Administration recommends that Parkland County's Naturalization Policy be brought forward for approval at the January 14th Council meeting.
Purpose
The purpose of the Naturalization Policy is to conserve, enhance and restore Parkland County's natural environment on County-managed lands, to protect environmentally sensitive and significant areas during parcel subdivision, and to promote conservation, enhancement and restoration of the natural environment on privately owned lands.
Summary
In late 2012, Parkland County's Environmental Advisory Committee recommended that administration develop a Naturalization Policy. Extensive inter-departmental discussions and reviews were undertaken while developing this policy. A Naturalization Policy helps to protect Parkland County's Natural environment on County managed lands by: managing storm water effluent in a more environmentally friendly manner, enabling the conservation enhancement and restoration of the natural integrity of suitable County managed areas, protecting environmentally sensitive and significant areas during parcel subdivision, and promoting the conservation enhancement and restoration of environmentally sensitive and significant features on privately held lands. As this Policy will affect the developer community, a consultation process will be initiated for the development of the Administrative Procedures for this Policy prior to its coming into force.
