Title

Range Road 30 Reconstruction and Paving Petition Report

Proposed Motion

That the Range Road 30 Reconstruction and Paving Petition Report be received for information, as presented.

Body

Administration Recommendation

Administration supports the proposed motion.

Purpose

To fulfill the Chief Administrative Officer's (CAO) responsibility to report to Council on the sufficiency of the petition.

Summary

A petition was received by Administration on May 8, 2017, requesting that Range Road 30 south of Township Road 524A be reconstructed and paved due to extensive traffic from construction equipment, service vehicles, school buses, residents, and other people using the lake.  The Range Road 30 Reconstruction and Paving Petition is insufficient due to deficiencies in the requirements of Sections 224(2)(a), 224(2)(b), 224(2)(c), 224(2)(d), 224(3)(a), 224(3)(b) and 224(4) of the Municipal Government Act.

Petition Policy C-AD09 allows petitions that do not meet the requirements of the Municipal Government Act to be considered a Petition or Statement of Support that reinforces public participation and communicates the opinions of residents.  Under this policy the CAO can direct Administration to take an action on this Statement of Support if they desire.  The CAO has directed Administration to conduct an engineering review of this road to identify proposed solutions that will address the resident concerns.

Strategic Plan/Policy/Legal/Staff Implications

Section 224 of the Municipal Government Act provides the legislated requirements for a petition.  Section 226 of the MGA compels the Chief Administrative Officer to make a report to Council on the sufficiency of a petition.
