Purpose
To add the cost of a wetland construction project to the 2024 budget.
Summary
In 2020, Parkland County signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas committing to a minimum of one wetland replacement project per year for the duration of the agreement. In 2024, administration is proposing to construct a minimum 1 ha. wetland on crown land just north of Twp Rd 532A and east of the Kenton outfall. The wetland will contribute to flood mitigation, improved water quality, wildlife habitat and biodiversity. At this time, permission from the Province to construct a wetland on Crown Land has been obtained and conditional approval from the funding program is forthcoming.
Historical Information:
In 2020 Council directed administration to pursue additional projects eligible under the Wetland Replacement Program.
