Administration supports the motion as the Strategic Plan provides the vision and direction Council has for the organization and community. It is an important document for Administration as it identifies priority areas for departments when developing annual business plans and budgets.
Purpose
To present to Council for review and adoption the Parkland County Strategic Plan 2014 - 2034.
Summary
Each year, Council and Senior Administration attend a retreat for the purpose of reviewing the County's Strategic Plan to ensure it aligns with the vision Council and the community has for the future of Parkland County. This year, Council had the information obtained through the community visioning exercises held in January/early February as part of the "If I was in charge of Parkland County" sessions and the follow-up community survey. This information played an important role in understanding residents' issues and priorities.
The Parkland County Strategic Plan 2014-2034 includes the same six priority areas, with some changes to the titles: Agriculture, Community (previously Quality of Life), Economy (previously Economic Development), Environment, Governance, and Infrastructure. Each priority area has a goal statement of the vision for Parkland County in 20 years. The strategies identified under each goal are the areas Administration will focus its attention in the next five years, which is done through development of the four-year departmental business plans and budgets. Administration will also prepare action plans and key performance indicators that Council can use as measures to see how the organization is moving towards Council's willed future for the County.
