Summary

The passing of Bill 20 brought changes to section 201 of the Municipal Government Act. Section 201 now requires that Parkland County must offer orientation training on specific topics to councillors following a general election. Section 201(a) identifies the training that must be held prior to an organizational meeting, and section 201(b) identifies the training that must be held prior to the first regularly scheduled council meeting.

In the short span of time between the election and the scheduled Organizational meeting administration has arranged for the required training pursuant to section 201(a). With this training completed the Organizational meeting can be held as scheduled on October 28, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.

The training required under section 201(b) has been scheduled for October 29, 2025, after the regular meeting of Council scheduled for October 28, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Given that the required training cannot be completed prior to the regular meeting of Council that is currently scheduled administration is requesting that this meeting of Council be cancelled.
