Purpose
New Policy C-AD20 - Norms and Values, is presented to Council for approval.
Summary
At the Council Strategic Planning Workshop held February 2012, facilitator Bill Sutherland reviewed Parkland County's Norms and Values for Members of Council. Considering his comments and suggestions, a new policy has been drafted to provide for ratification of these Norms and Values by having members of Council acknowledge and sign a copy of the "Norms and Values for Members of Council" at every Organizational Meeting. The facilitator felt that "Focus on the issue, not the individual" should be added to the Norms and Values because sometimes the issue can be lost in the heat of discussion. The facilitator also stressed that Council is trusted to make decisions in best interests of the whole, so this value has also been added to the Norms and Values.
The policy was reviewed by Governance and Priorities Committee at their meeting on October 2, 2012, and referred to Council for approval.

Policy C-AD20 complements Council's Governance Goal 1 which strives for the County to be recognized as a well-led municipality with sound policies, responsive processes, and effective decision-making.
