Purpose
The purpose of this agenda item is to inform Council of the County's progression through the Partners for Climate Protection Program 5 milestone framework, having recently received recognition for achieving Milestone 2.
Summary
In March of 2013 Parkland County joined the ICLEI Partners for Climate Protection Program. Members of this program commit to completing 5 milestones for reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that the community emits into the atmosphere. In August of 2013 Parkland County was recognized for meeting the requirements of Milestone 1- completing a greenhouse gas inventory and forecast. Since then, Administration has worked to complete the requirements for Milestone 2- setting a greenhouse gas reduction target. In July, 2014 Council adopted specific reduction targets for both community and corporate emissions, and as of July 16th 2014 Parkland County has been recognized by ICLEI and the FCM for their completion of Milestone 2.
