Administration Recommendation

Administration supports that Bylaw 2024-21 receive first reading, and that a public hearing be scheduled to hear public comment on Bylaw 2024-21.

 

Purpose

To allow for Parkland County to effectively advertise in more than one (1) method of advertising to inform the public and residents of Parkland County.

 

Summary

In accordance with Section 606.1 of the Municipal Government Act, councils are permitted to adopt their own advertising methods by bylaw, which states:  "Provide for one or more methods, which may include electronic means, for advertising proposed bylaws, resolutions, meetings, public hearings, and other things referred to in section 606 of the Act."

 

Bylaw 2024-21 will address the realities of how Parkland County residents receive information and consume media by the use of electronic advertising as a valid method of statutory advertising. Bylaw 2024-21 includes posting notices on the Parkland County website and promoting notices via social media. The Bylaw addresses that newspaper advertising or other means of advertising may be used when deemed appropriate.
