Proposed Motion
That Council approve up to $25,000 from Restricted Surplus - Recreation Facilities for the Village of Wabamun's Arena Assessment.

Administration Recommendation
Administration supports the proposed motion. In Stantec's proposal it references the report being presented to the Village of Wabamun Council; if Council approves this request Administration will ensure that the Final Report is also presented to Parkland County Council as well. Alternate options Council may wish to consider include cost sharing at the usage rate our current Arena Cost Share agreement is based on which is 30.93% ($15,465); or not approving the request.
Purpose
To consider the Village of Wabamun's Arena Assessment Cost Share request (Attachment #1)
Summary
Parkland County has a strong cost sharing relationship with the Village of Wabamun and their Arena which serves many Parkland County residents. The Arena is aging and many of the core systems are at the end of their lifespan and are in critical need of repair or replacement. The respective Administrations feel it is necessary and timely to complete an Arena Needs Assessment (Attachment #2) to provide Councils and Administrations from each Municipality with the information required to determine the future options for the Arena. The intent is to assess current usage, current facility condition (including core systems such as Ice Plant, Ice Pad etc.), potential future usage/need and develop options based on that information on how best to address and meet the ice based needs in the community. Assessment would begin immediately and be completed before year end.
