Purpose
To update the Committee of the Whole on progress made in environmental education, highlighting the completion of the Interactive Guide to Waterfront Living.
Summary
Due to recommendations from the Environmental Advisory Committee, 2015 was declared The Year of Our Lakes in Parkland County. As a result, education of waterfront residents has been made a priority goal within the Environment and Community Sustainability Service Area. Through-out the summer of 2016 administration has developed both in-person and online workshop resources to inform waterfront residents of the best ways to manage their properties to protect their investments and the environment. An in-person lakefront stewardship workshop was delivered in July 2016 in partnership with the Land Stewardship Centre's Love Your Lake program, Nature Alberta's Living by Water program, and the County's Green Acreages program. In August 2016 the Interactive Guide to Waterfront Living was completed and is now available as an online workshop resource for residents on an on-going basis.

The Interactive Guide to Waterfront Living will help administration meet Council's Strategic Plan goal to "Promote environmental stewardship through resident participation and community education."
