That a resolution be submitted to the October 17, 2016 Pembina Zone meeting for AAMDC to advocate for the Provincial Government's to preserve the land use planning policy mandate of the Capital Region Board, as presented.

Purpose
To urge the Provincial Government to direct the Capital Region Board to preserve their land use planning mandate.
Summary
Elected officials attending the 2016 Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Convention on October 6th were made aware that the Capital Region Board is planning to expand their mandate to include various decisions that are presently made by local elected officials.
The Capital Region Board has proposed policies relative to Economic Development, Transit Authorities and Agricultural issues that expand their mandate beyond a land use planning role.
The Capital Region Board has been advised of Parkland County’s concern that any expansion of their mandate beyond land use planning policy will impair a municipal Councils and elected officials ability to effectively represent their communities
The Capital Region Boards mandate must remain untouched as they have facilitated positive actions and policies around land use planning and the interactions and decision-making required within that context.
