Purpose
To work through a spirit of reconciliation, collaboration and partnership to engage a process to plan and host the World Indigenous Nations Games on July 2 to 9, 2017.

Summary
The Enoch Cree Nation, Confederacy of Treaty Six, the City of Edmonton and the University of Alberta, have been selected to host the 2017 World Indigenous Games. Parkland County would be joining the Enoch Cree Nation, City of Edmonton, University of Alberta, WIN Sport International, Province of Alberta, Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta, Treaty 7 Management Corporation, Metis Nation of Alberta, Metis Settlements General Council, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and Government of Canada in support of the declaration on the World Indigenous Nations Games. The World Indigenous Nations Games will be a Games of Excellence showcasing the best of talented athletes and the richness and beauty of Indigenous cultures of the world's 370 million Indigenous Peoples. Participants will represent global regions of Indigenous Peoples, including the Asia Pacific/Australia/New Zealand Region, the Arctic Circumpolar Region, the African Region, the European Region, the Central and South American Region, the North American region as well as the United States of America, and the Host Region of Canada.

The World Indigenous Nations Games Summit is being held December 11-13, 2016 at River Cree Marriott, Treaty 6 Territory, Alberta, and the attached draft declaration is being developed. It is a statement that the parties will work "through a spirit of reconciliation, collaboration and partnership to agree to engage in a process of developing the path forward in successfully planning and hosting the World Indigenous Nations Games".
