Proposed Motions

1. That the Fire Services Master Plan and Implementation Plan be received for information, as presented.

2. That the Fire Services Master Plan and Implementation Plan be presented to Council at the July 10, 2018 Council meeting.

Administration supports the motions as presented.

 

Purpose

The Community and Protective Services Division is presenting the completed the Fire Services Master Plan.

 

Summary

Fire Administration are presenting a review of the fire services master plan that was previously presented in May 2016.  With a year of activity, the plan is being reviewed and implementation strategies presented through the business planning and budget process. This master plan included input from many stakeholders and is in alignment with the Council Strategic Plan.  Many aspects of the fires services were comprehensively reviewed and evaluated for effectiveness.  Through data analysis and trending modeling key strategic priorities and Council policy statements have been identified. 

 

These policy statements combined with administration goals are intended to be the guiding statements as the fire services develops into the future.  Many dynamic challenges have been identified in the plan and these include some of these critical focus areas:

 

                     Identified service levels

                     Recruitment and retention

                     Regional integration and cooperation

                     Performance reporting

 

These focus areas have several levels of goals for the fire administration to action in the business planning and budget process.  Through annual performance reporting to Council the master plan will act as a guiding document in implementing an effective strategy to public safety.
