Administration supports providing information to Council and the public on this matter as required by the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA).
Purpose
The purpose of this report is to provide Council with information on the status of candidate Campaign Disclosure Statements.
Summary
Parkland County held its municipal election on October 16, 2017. As per the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA), by March 1, 2018, candidates who accept campaign contributions or funded a campaign by a combination of self-funding and contributions, are required to file a Campaign Disclosure Statement. Candidates who were self-funded, to a maximum of $10,000, can notify the municipality of such and are not required to submit a Campaign Disclosure Statement.
For those Candidates who do not submit by March 1st and are required to do so, the LAEA states that the municipality is to impose a late filing fee. The LAEA further states that for those candidates who do not submit a Campaign Disclosure Statement by March 31st, 2018, a report must be presented to Council providing public notification of the status of any outstanding responses.
There were 15 candidates who registered to run in the municipal election and the following four submitted Campaign Disclosure Statements noting the contributions they accepted, prior to March 1st.
