Title

VMware Enterprise Licensing Upgrade and Server for Dynamics 365 and Office 365

Proposed Motion

That administration be directed to purchase VMware enterprise licensing upgrade and server in the amount of up to $130,000 from the Office Lifecycle Plan Restricted Surplus.

Body

Administration Recommendation

Administration supports the proposed motion.

Purpose

Existing VMware licensing for virtual desktops does not enable all features required for the successful delivery of Dynamics 365 and Office 365.  An additional server is also required to address desktop performance issues related to system resource capacity.

Summary

Parkland County invested in VMware technology over 10 years ago to virtualize servers and desktops.  The investment in this technology has been very successful.  The current level of licensing is not sufficient to successfully deliver cloud-based applications such as Office 365 and Dynamics 365.  The enterprise level of licensing will allow IT to deploy new and existing applications properly using the existing virtual desktop platform.  The additional server will add resources to alleviate performance issues.
