Council Appointments to Committees and Boards Review

 

Proposed Motion

That the Council appointed Boards and Committees review be received for information, as presented.

 

Body

Purpose

That the Committee of the Whole evaluate and assess committee and board appointments, discuss Council's involvement, and review the Council Code of Conduct pertaining to involvement on boards and committees.

 

Summary

At the March 5, 2019 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Committee reviewed the Edmonton Metropolitan Region's boards and committees that members of Council are appointed to.

 

During March, individual interviews were held with each elected official to confirm the accuracy of the information on the list and to understand perspectives on the value of various committees.

 

At the April 2, 2019 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Committee reviewed the following internal boards/committees that members of Council have been appointed to:

Agricultural Services Board

Community Sustainability Committee

Economic Diversification Committee

 

At the May 7, 2019 Committee of the Whole meeting, administration will present the following external boards/committees:

Athabasca Watershed Council

Inter-Municipal Collaboration Committee

Keephills Power Project Steering Committee

North Saskatchewan Headwaters Alliance

Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum Society Board of Directors

Stony Plain Seed Cleaning Association

Sturgeon River Watershed Alliance Steering Committee

In 2018 a review of Boards and Committees was conducted.  The purpose of the review was an exercise to give opportunity for a comprehensive discussion and evaluation of each Board and Committee that Council has been appointed to, and to make an informed decision on appointments and levels of commitment moving forward.  The continued evaluation creates discussion and awareness to meet Council goals set out in the Strategic Plan.
