That Council approve the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum request in the amount of $74,283 for the 2020 budget, as presented.

This report is coming to Council to provide direction to Administration on the level of support to provide to the Cultural groups.
Summary
The Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum, have been preserving and promoting the history and culture of Stony Plain and surrounding area for 30 years. The museum consists of 23 buildings and has a collection of over 10,000 artifacts ranging from common household, personal and business artifacts, equipment & tools to large farm machinery, tractors construction machinery and vehicles. The Museum currently offers school programs history and cultural based lectures, open museum tours, and rentals. The Museum attracts visitors from all across Canada.
Over the past few years, the Museum has been making changes to increase the buildings, attractions and artifacts. With an increase in buildings and amenities, there is also an increase in their operational costs. Although the Museum applies for other grants and receives funding from other sources, they continue to run at a deficit.
The Museum is asking that Parkland County increase the annual contribution to $74,283, which is an increase of $8,983 from 2019. $74,283 is equal to the amount they have requested from Stony Plain.
Parkland County’s current contribution to the Museum is one of the few sources they have that are undesignated funds. The Museum is also able to request capital cost share funding from Parkland County, which is subject to Council approval. This could increase the amount of support they receive from the County.
