Purpose

Amendment to Bylaw 2020-15 is required to align with Ministerial Order No. MSD:103/20 which modified section 30(1) of the Local Authorities Election Act regarding acceptable forms of payment for nomination deposits.

Summary

On December 14, 2020 Section 30(1) of the Local Authorities Election Act was modified by Ministerial Order No. MSD:103/20 to allow nomination deposits to also be paid in-person by debit card or credit card for the 2021 election.  Prior to this modification nomination deposits were paid by cash, certified cheque or money order.  Bylaw 2020-15 received all three readings by Council on November 24, 2020 and specified payment of the nomination deposit by cash, certified cheque or money order.  Bylaw 2021-01 expands payment options to also allow payment by in person debit or credit card for the 2021 municipal election only.
