Purpose
Development Permit 18-D-185 was approved by the Development Authority on July 4, 2018, for a religious assembly operated by the Canadian Carmelite Charitable Society. The development has many members of the public concerned due to its location within the Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area and its proximity to Chickakoo Lake. The purpose of this presentation is to provide information to the public on the development to help alleviate the concerns.

Summary
On March 8, 2021, a Water Act Notice of Application was posted outlining that the Canadian Carmelite Charitable Society had filed an application under the provisions of the Water Act for a licence for the diversion of 6,355 cubic metres of water per year. Members of the public expressed concerns over the application and the impacts it may have to existing water wells, groundwater levels, and lake levels. In addition, questions and concerns were raised about the development itself being located within the Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area, as well as the process used to approve the development.

Members of the public attended Public Input at the April 6, 2021, Committee of the Whole meeting. Some public members expressed concerns and outlined their questions regarding the development, while others shared their support for the development. Administration gave a verbal presentation on the Canadian Carmelite Charitable Society development following Public Input. Information on the development and responses to some of the key concerns and questions raised by the public were provided; however, not all items were addressed and more detail is needed.
